The History of Vancouver Branch AAUW

Branch historian Marilyn Lewis researched and wrote articles detailing the history of the branch in celebration of its 70th birthday. These were published monthly in The Voice, the branch newsletter, September 2001 through June 2002.

The Founding

Perusal of the archives reveals that an organizational meeting was chaired by Mrs. Elizabeth Sterling on November 14, 1931. Twenty-three women attended at the Evergreen hotel. The Washington State President was there to explain the purposes and principles of AAUW. Officers were elected the following month for the new Clark County Branch. Mrs. E.N. Blythe (Isabel) became the first president. Dues were $2.00.
